Flitton Flits 2022

May 3, 2022

After three years since we last held our Fun Run it was great to see everyone back again, as well as some new faces.  A week before the forecast was for rain on the day, but the glorious sunshine we had helped to make it a great event.  We had a record turnout in all three races with 100 in the 5K run.  And records were set by both the male & female winners.  Look on this page for full results and prize winners.

I had many favourable comments about the course from first time runners and some who enjoyed the lovely new boardwalk on Flitwick Moor.  A quote from someone from outside the area, “A delightful route with lots of support – but I didn’t expect the Kissing Gates”.  I’ll remember to mention them at start next time!  The atmosphere at the finish was exciting, with the crowd cheering on all the runners.

A big thanks to all our marshals who cheered the runners on around the route.  Thanks also to those who set up the course and those who helped behind the scenes.  Also a huge thanks to all the local businesses who generously donated prizes.  We are very grateful to them for making this what is known locally as “The little race with the big prizes.”  All prize donors are listed in the Prize winners list.

Thanks also to Nathan and his team at the White Hart for their sterling work providing drinks and barbeque for all, including free burgers for all marshals.  The sunshine meant many people stayed for the prize giving and enjoyed the post-race atmosphere.

Due to the record entry we also made a profit of over £700 which will be used for works looking after and improving Flitton Moor.  Thanks to those who pre-entered online – it made processing entries much easier.  We will shortly be renovating the pond platform and installing some new sculptures.  Also very soon we will putting new information panels in the cabinets around the Two Moors Heritage Trail – some of which the 5K run follows.

Our next event on the Moor is the Family Barn Storm – on Saturday 23rd July.  We have many stalls and things for children to do, including a live owl display.  More information on this will be posted on this website in the near future.

We hope to see you all again next year on 1st May 2023 – so put the date in your diary.
