Flitton Flit Fun Run 2023

May 1, 2023

Wow!  We had another record turnout in all three races with 130 finishers in the 5K.  Despite the forecast the weather was ideal for running, with only a little drizzle at the finish as the last runners came in.  Both the winner and first female were from the village.  Full results and prize winners are listed on this site.

Again we had many favourable comments about the course from first time runners.  A quote from some from Bedford, “A lovely course – we’ll be back next year & tell all our friends”.  Runners came from as far afield as Bletchley, Harlow & Chelmsford – though it was good to see huge numbers from the village who manged to take home most of the prizes.  A special mention must be made of Harry Nevzat, who having won the junior 1 mile race, then went on to run the 5K.

A big thanks to all our marshals who cheered the runners on around the route.  Thanks also to those who set up the course and those who helped behind the scenes.  Also a huge thanks to all the local businesses who generously donated prizes.  We are very grateful to them for making this event ‘The little race with the big prizes’, as it’s been described locally.  All prize donors are listed in the prize winners list.

Thanks also to Nathan and his team at the White Hart for their sterling work providing drinks and a barbeque for all, including free burgers for our marshals.  Many people stayed for the prize giving and enjoyed the post-race atmosphere.

We appreciate any feedback and will work to make next year even better!  Our online booking facility was very popular this year and we had a new person dealing with the entries and allocation of race numbers etc on the day.  We hope everyone found it an easy and smooth process overall.  We will make sure to make it known that it is cash only for entries on the day as this caught a few people out.

Due to the record entry we also made a profit of over £750.  This enables us to make a donation to Flitton Church Hall and to support works looking after and improving Flitton Moor.  We will shortly be renovating the pond platform and installing some new sculptures on the moor.  These were supposed to happen last year, but will be done soon.

Our next event on the Moor is the Family Barn Storm – on Saturday 29th July.  We have many stalls and things for children to do, including a live owl display.  More information on this will be posted on this website soon.

We hope to see you all again next year on 6th May 2024 – so put the date in your diary and until then, keep running (and walking) and enjoy our lovely countryside.
