The Short-Winged Conehead

April 17, 2021

The short-winged conehead, a rare type of bush cricket, was confined to the sedge swamps of Flitwick Moor, but has since spread along the Flit Valley and can now be found on Flitton Moor. (Drawing by Steve Halton)

Both Flitton and Flitwick Moor are the remains of a much larger wet moorland that originally extended over much of the Flit Valley, from Westoning to Shefford and northwards to Maulden, prior to agricultural improvements.
